The eagle was considered to be the king of birds (rex avium) by medieval authors such as Vincent de Beauvais. In pre-Christian times it was associated with majesty, victory and courage, while later in the Middle Ages it became a symbol of desire for knowledge, generosity, hope and sublime clarity.

With its massive wing span, large frame, sharp beak and talons, and penetrating gaze, the eagle is a formidable creature with few if any natural enemies. It is no surprise, then, that this regal bird is a symbol of fearlessness and courage.

The eagle is a natural symbol of power and authority, with its regal bearing and ability to survey vast distances while soaring at altitudes of 3,048 meters (10,000 feet) or more. Eagles also occupy the top of the food chain.

eagle is also a symbol of vision, honor, generosity, strength, courage, goodness, purity, virtuousness, faith, repentance.
